Interest from non-Maori in Matariki and Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori is growing according to Auckland Libraries' Maori Advisor.

There are 55 libraries in the Auckland region, and more than 250 kaupapa Maori events have been held in the past month.

They included Te Reo classes, storytime, whakaari or plays, rongoa, and korero with kaumatua.

Auckland Libraries Pouwhakahaere Maori, Anahera Saddler, said people from all walks of life take part in the events, it's an opportunity to engage with different communities.

She said it's really pleasing to see people enjoy library spaces and hearing Te Reo. She said it also encourages people to connect with their Maori resources, not only for Maori language week, but all year round.
