BOP conference to focus on leadership

6:28 pm on 25 June 2014

Maori councillors in the Bay of Plenty are to host a conference in Rotorua aimed at putting the idea of rangatiratanga [leadership] into practice.

The Bay of Plenty's Regional Council's Maori Policy team has put together a programme with keynote speakers such as Patrick McGarvey and Jack Thatcher providing insights into fostering ways in which Maori can contribute to regional decision-making.

One of the three Maori councillors who created the programme, Awanui Black, said the conference name, Te Ahurangi, was essentially about Maori striving for excellence and the focus of the conference is about putting rangatiratanga into action.

There will be four keynote speakers and workshops at the conference, which will take place on 30 June at the Waiariki Institute of Technology.
