Indigenous people around the world are said to be impressed by the way Maori and the New Zealand Government are resolving past grievances through the Waitangi Tribunal.

Maori United Nations delegate Carl Takarangi-Hutchby said First Nations leaders and their governments were taking a lead from the model used in Aotearoa as a way to settle issues with their indigenous communities.

The Whanganui man said the Treaty settlement process did not make everyone happy, but from his perspective it did work.

He said indigenous people and governments around the world were looking at the New Zealand model as an example of how to build better relationships with their tangata whenua.
