The creative efforts of Hawke's Bay prisoners are up for sale and on display at Hastings' Toimairangi Art Gallery.
The men taking part chose sale proceeds to go to Victim Support.
The exhibition, called Tauparapara, meaning 'Settling of the Dust', features artwork from 20 inmates in Hawke's Bay Regional Prison.
The tikanga tutor said the exhibition featured a wonderful collection of works that reflected the exhibition's title.
Wiki Turner said the calibre of the art was very high and the pieces reflected the exhibition's title of Tauparapara.
She said the prisoners created 30 pieces, including paintings, carvings and weaving as part of their involvement in a tikanga Maori programme.
Ms Turner said art could be a form of self-reflection which was the beginning of a process for the prisoners to change their behaviour.
She said part of the process was for the men to learn not to be afraid to praise another person's work and for each person to be able to praise themselves.
Ms Turner said the art had been an amazing journey for the prisoners, and she said she saw the essence of the men change as the programme progressed.
The exhibition is free and on display until 24 June.
