Members of a Palmerston North iwi have been dealt a blow to their campaign to stop the Crown settling a Treaty claim with an urban authority.
Rangitane ki Manawatu descendants say the Government is wrong to deal with Tanenuiarangi Manawatu Incorporation, because it does not represent the true tribal families.
The Maori Affairs Select Committee has been asked to step in and avert what Rangitane ki Manawatu calls a travesty of justice.
A letter pleads with MPs to get involved, by saying ministers have not addressed their concerns.
But the committee has responded saying it has no power to intervene
A spokesperson for the members, Brigitte Te Awe Awe-Bevan says they're extremely disappointed with the Select Committee's inability to act on what is a breach of tikanga, whakapapa and an affront to the tipuna (ancestors) of Rangitane.
The urban authority the Crown is choosing to deal with has not responded to Te Manu Korihi's request for comment.
