Mana eyes all Maori seats

7:32 pm on 11 March 2014

The Mana Party is better prepared to win more seats in the next election and has time on its side, president Annette Sykes says.

The movement will contest all seven Maori electorates in September, and is considering vying for general seats. Leader Hone Harawira is the party's only MP and represents Te Tai Tokerau.

The party officially registered only five months before the last election, in 2011, and Ms Sykes said it had only weeks to run a campaign. This time, it had a tighter organisational strategy and a better chance to win.

The party had strong candidates for Ikaroa-Rawhiti, Waiariki and Te Taitokerau, and most candidates would be confirmed at its annual meeting next month.
