The Federation of Maori Authorities' (FOMA) new partnership with the Riddet Institute aims to help them understand the future of food, with an emphasis on delivering nutritious products, it says.
FOMA has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Riddet Institute, which is a Centre of Research Excellence and will provide strategic advice on food research and innovation.
FOMA project director Alan Groves says the relationship it has with Riddet is a good look considering there's a big push by nutritionists and dieticians for people to eat healthier food.
Riddet can take FOMA to a whole new level, which is to look at the wider picture of nutrition, and the future of food where Maori food producers need to start positioning themselves to follow trends Riddet can bring to their attention, he says.
Riddet will give FOMA more scope to look beyond the farm gate at niche, high-value opportunities in the international market place, Mr Groves says.
