Hall damaged by charges - consultant

9:17 am on 3 February 2014

A consultant who has worked with Treaty solicitor Donna Hall in the past is claiming that a charge that has hung over her has damaged her reputation and business.

Ms Hall was last week cleared of bringing the legal profession into disrepute. The Law Society had accused her of a conflict of interest when she represented clients in the sale of a block of land near Taupo several years ago.

Property development consultant Stephen Michener, who played a role in the sale, said Donna Hall's credibility had been doubted. He said her reputation will not have been tarnished for the people who knew her well, but for the general public a cloud has been hanging over her.

He said some Maori trusts had been holding off on considering hiring Ms Hall until the Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal had made its decision.

Donna Hall has declined to comment on the case until her claim for costs has been resolved.
