The organiser of an anti-mining hikoi from the top of the country says the group has full backing of local hapu to take its concerns on to Waitangi.
The group will march from Cape Reinga this weekend in opposition to mining in the Reinga Basin - a culturally significant site for Maori.
Organiser Reuben Taipari says the people's messages on mining continue to be disregarded by politicians and Prime Minister John Key.
Mr Taipari says Waitangi hapu, Ngati Kura, Ngati Kawa and Ngati Rehia support the issues that the hikoi wants to raise on Waitangi Day about being accountable and taking care of the seabed and foreshore and he is expecting a positive response.
