Ngati Pahauwera in northern Hawke's Bay says it will hold a series of wananga (learning sessions) to teach descendants their tribal identity.
It follows a hui it held in Waihau, near Wairoa, on Saturday, where 50 people came together to learn about their whakapapa and whenua.
The iwi includes 85 historic hapu and spans the Hastings and Wairoa Districts.
Chair of the iwi development trust Toro Waaka says it will hold hui at least once every two months in different places, such as Taupo and Napier.
He says the most recent gathering to learn about the tribes' history was a success, with many enjoying the chance to connect with one another.
The iwi will hold a series of wananga over the next four months.
