A Maori couple from Huntly have been recognised at Government House for fostering children for Ngati Kahu for 15 years.
Clare and Terry Davis were among 10 caregivers to receive awards in Wellington this week, as part of Foster Care Awareness Week.
The couple has been fostering for Te Iwi o Ngati Kahu Trust in Northland and estimate they've cared for 40 children and young people.
Clare Davis says usually she and her husband know the child's whanau and can give them a background of their family which gives the children a sense of belonging.
She says it's an honour to be awarded for something that is done out of love for children, and hopes more couples consider foster care.
