New Te Aute college principal officially welcomed

5:46 am on 26 September 2013

An official welcome for the new principal of the well-known Maori Boarding school, Te Aute College, will be held on Thursday morning.

Shane Hiha takes over the role of principal from the acting tumuaki, Bill Adams, who was appointed to the role earlier this year after the resignation of Piripi Blake.

Mr Hiha was the deputy principal of William Colenso College in Napier.

Ongoing improvements have been made at the kura since the appointment of commissioner Elizabeth Ellis by the Ministry of Education in 2011.

Ms Ellis was brought in to deal with a range of problems, including a falling school roll and education results.

A farewell or poroporoaki will be held for her at Te Aute on Friday.
