King Country Maori give evidence

6:44 am on 10 September 2013

Witnesses have this week started giving evidence on the Native Land Court's impact on King Country Maori.

The Waitangi Tribunal's Te Rohe Potae district inquiry continues, and this week is being held at Aramiro Marae, in Raglan. It is the sixth week of 3-1/2 months of hearings.

The tribunal says it has heard evidence on raupatu [war and confiscation] in the Waikato, and further hearings will include looking into education and health.

The inquiry is dealing with more than 270 claims and includes investigating the Crown's relationship with the Kingitanga movement.
