2degrees partnering with Ngati Porou

The mobile phone company 2degrees is partnering with a number of Ngati Porou organisations to upgrade its technology and services.

The organisations - including the East Coast Rugby Union, Pakihiroa Farms and Ngati Porou Hauora - expect significant cost savings from the move.

Ngati Porou chair Apirana Mahuika says that along with the iwi's commercial interests, it helps the community have better access to important data through mobile devices and work in a more efficient and effective manner.

The head of sales for 2degrees, Mark Payne, says the company has a very strong connection with the Maori community and will be looking at new ways for the tribe to connect and engage with iwi members.

A community rebate fund will also be launched by the two groups early next month.
