A global expert on indigenous family history records says New Zealand's whakapapa research tools for Maori are some of the best in the world.
The content director for ancestry.com.au, Brad Argent, is in New Zealand as part of Family History month, which starts in August.
He says the personal accounts, letters, photos, electoral rolls and Maori Land Court records stored in New Zealand's libraries capture a Maori and Pakeha perspective of history.
Mr Argent says most indigenous records are very one-sided and do not have the attention to detail that New Zealand's does.
He says more Maori should use New Zealand libraries' resources to find out more about their ancestors.
