Te Hamua Nikora, a Maori Television presenter, says his biggest challenge will be getting rangatahi to vote in Saturday's by-election.

He says a big part of his campaign has been helping young Maori to understand the importance of voting and how to go about it.

He was running a sausage sizzle at the Camberly Community Centre in Hastings on Wednesday, and ended up taking four or five car loads of young people to the early polling booths.

Mr Nikora says young Maori have never seen any relevance in the political process but he's glad they are becoming more aware of why their vote counts.

He says he's exhausted from the past few weeks but is loving it.
