Reading of Mana's food in schools bill delayed

9:30 am on 15 May 2013

The first reading of the Mana Party leader's food in schools bill has been delayed until July.

Hone Harawira wants funding for all decile one and two schools to provide breakfast and lunches to students.

He says he has a packed schedule over the next few weeks and the postponement means he can do justice to all his political responsibilities, including standing a candidate in the Ikaroa-Rawhiti by-election at the end of June.

He says it also gives more time to persuade ACT, United Future, and National MPs that the bill deserves to go to Select Committee.

The first reading of the Education (Breakfast and Lunch Programmes in Schools) Amendment Bill is now due on 10 July.
