An attempt to set up a tribal parliament for Te Arawa by May has stalled.
Te Arawa again raised the topic of a super iwi structure at a recent hui - its annual general meeting.
Groups in Bay of Plenty are looking at establishing a body which would unite descendants and build on achievements by iwi organisations involved in areas such as business and fisheries.
Te Arawa Lakes Trust chairperson Toby Curtis says the people were told about how a super structure could operate by having three representatives from each marae.
He says the people have asked for more time to consider and talk about ways in which the structure could be run.
Mr Curtis says some at the hui were concerned about how smaller marae could pick the best representatives, because some of their members are living away from home.
He says they're considering holding a special hui in May to work on a way forward.
