Waikato-Tainui supports a Whanau Ora strategy to stamp out criminal offending among Maori, which will in turn minimise the number of Maori people who are victimised by crime.
The Turning of the Tide strategy aims to reduce the prosecution rate of Maori by 25% by 2018.
Waikato-Tainui says it's been talking and working for some time with the Waikato Police District Commander about implementing the programme throughout their rohe.
Tom Roa, chairperson of tribal executive Te Arataura, says it's also important to realise Maori are affected by crime too.
Mr Roa says all too often Maori are targeted as the culprits, but they are also major victims.
He says empowering whanau is also critical to ensuring Turning of the Tide is a success.
Mr Roa says hui need to be held with Ngati Maniapoto, Ngati Raukawa and Pare Hauraki so that all iwi in Waikato-Tainui are following the same kaupapa.
