Ngai Tahu to form tribal branch in Queensland

7:15 pm on 25 July 2012

South Island iwi Ngai Tahu is calling its members living in Queensland to a special hui to discuss forming a tribal branch in the Australian state to bring whanau together to learn about their Ngai Tahutanga, or their distinct identity.

Ngai Tahu wants to form a Taurahere group to provide information on iwi initiatives that include its Whai Rawa benefit scheme, the Ngai Tahu Fund, the Kotahi Mano Kaika language strategy and an update on what Ngai Tahu have been up to.

The hui is being held at the Beenleigh Events Centre near Logan on Saturday afternoon on 28 July.

Iwi members must bring their birth certificates and can call Whetu Moataane at the Ngai Tahu Runanga Office in Christchurch for more information.
