Dropped Ponting wants another crack at Ashes glory

Despite being axed from Australia's one day cricket side, Ricky Ponting is still chasing Ashes redemption.

The 37-year-old was shown the door after his poor showing in the one-day Tri-series, but Ponting's still hoping to go to England for a fifth time on next year's Ashes tour.

He says that while the Ashes aren't the sole reason for continuing his 162-Test career, it's an opportunity he'd relish.

Ponting would be well into his 39th year by the time the Ashes tour winds up in England, but the man many feel is second only to Sir Donald Bradman in the history of Australian Test batsmen can take heart from the Don's own record.

Bradman was two weeks shy of his 40th birthday when he played his final Ashes Test.

Ponting says as long as he has the desire to play for Australia he has no reason to walk away from the game.
