The young Auckland shot put star Jacko Gill has set a world record while competing at the Millenium Institute on the North Shore last night.
Throwing the day before his 17th birthday, Gill set a new World Youth Best for the 5kg shot with a distance of 24.45 metres.
With his second throw Gill improved on his previous World Best by 10 centimetres.... he then followed that up with 24.41 metres in the fifth round.
Earlier, he threw the senior 7.26kg implement out to 20.07 metres, his second best ever and 31 centimetres short of his New Zealand record, set two weeks ago.
New Zealand's number two Shot Putter, Tomas Walsh also competed and reached 19.95 metres with the junior 6kg weight, maintaining his position as the fifth ranked junior in the world.
