Magazine claims Vinokourov bought cycling win

A Swiss magazine has accused controversial Kazakh rider Alexandre Vinokourov of buying his 2010 victory in the Liege-Bastogne classic race.

L'Illustre says Vinokourov made a 100,000 euros payment to Russian Alexandr Kolobnev to ensure Kolobnev did not push him to the line in a sprint finish between the pair.

But Vinokourov, who retired in the summer, said he had simply offered his fellow rider a loan and denied wrongdoing, saying he always fought to win.

Vinokourov, 38, also won the race in 2005 and has four stage wins on the Tour de France but then served a ban after testing positive for blood doping in 2007.
