The Dunedin bowler Shaun Scott stormed back onto the international scene with a win over Samoa's Hans Gabriel, 29-9 at the Asia Pacific Championships in Adelaide.
Stepping back on to international greens after a solid performance at the World Singles Champion of Champions, Scott was a driving force for a Black Jack team that are in Australia.
With the Women's Pairs, including world number one Jo Edwards and world number three Val Smith, on board it's difficult to envisage a campaign that won't bring back a medal or three.
However a first up loss to the Australian duo (17-14) threw some grey clouds over the first day of the championship.
The women's Triples were out to make amends however, beating their Canadian rivals 14-7.
The Men's Fours had a bye, while the women's Fours begin their campaign on Sunday.
