Australia likely to leave out one paceman

8:13 am on 1 December 2011

Australia are almost certain to omit one of their yong pace bowlers from their 12 for the first cricket test against New Zealand starting today in Brisbane.

Pre-match talk has focussed on the possible inclusion of four fast bowlers, including three debutants in the home team's 11, but skipper Michael Clarke says the nature of the Gabba pitch has changed during the week, and it's almost certain either the local pace bowler Ben Cutting or New South Wales left-armer Mitchell Starc will be 12th man.

So Nathan Lyon, a former groundsman at the Adelaide Oval, looks set to play the first home game of his five-test career.
