The New York Jets rose to their coach's challenge by striking early in a 32-3 thumping of the Jacksonville Jaguars to boost their record to 2-0 in National Football League action.
The Jets had gone 16 straight games without a first-quarter touchdown but snapped that streak on the first possession of the game when quarterback Mark Sanchez connected on a 17-yard touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes.
New York also scored on the very next series, adding two points on Jacksonville's third offensive play when defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson sacked Jaguars quarterback Luke McCown in the end zone for a safety and grabbed a 15-3 advantage by intermission before turning the game into a blowout.
Jacksonville, who dropped to 1-1, visit the Carolina Panthers next week, while the Jets travel to Oakland to play the Raiders.
