Scotland has beaten Romania 34-24 in the second game of the Rugby World Cup in Invercargill, but it took a long range try with less than five minutes to go to avoid Scottish blushes.
Wing Simon Danielli finished off a move that went about 70 metres to break the deadlock when the scores were locked up at 24-24 in the 76th minute.
Danielli crossed again two minutes later to put the result beyond doubt and secure the all-important bonus point - but Romanian fans had plenty to cheer about as the minnows pushed the Scots all the way, scoring two tries.
Scotland led 18-11 at half-time.
Rugby Park had appeared set to witness a true mismatch as Romania fell off tackles and leaked two first-half tries, to Scotland halfback Mike Blair in the ninth minute, and in the 21st minute when centre Joe Ansbro also brushed aside several tacklers to score.
But Romania grew into the game and a number of forward drives finally got some reward with a try to prop Mihai Alexandru Lazar just before half-time.
Another huge scrum in the 67th minute resulted in a try off the back to No.8 Daniel Carpo and Romania led 24-21 before a penalty and Danielli's late brace got the Scottish home.
Romania was beaten 42-0 by Scotland at the 2007 World Cup.
