The American golfer JB Holmes has had successful brain surgery and plans to return to the PGA Tour next year.

Holmes had been experiencing vertigo-like symptoms since the Players Championship in May and was diagnosed with structural defects in the part of the brain which controls balance and underwent surgery last week.

A two-time winner on the US circuit, he's expected to be sidelined for three months while he recovers.
