The Warriors have spared Auckland City transport officials a massive headache by missing a chance to start the National Rugby League playoffs at home on the night the rugby World Cup starts on September 9.
The Warriors would have stayed fourth if they had beaten St George-Illawarra but after conceding two early tries the defending champion Dragons broke a five match losing streak with a 26-22 victory at Wollongong, where the Warriors have yet to win.
Now the Warriors could go into the last game against North Queensland in seventh, depending on the result of Monday night's clash between Wests Tigers and Gold Coast.
