The former All Blacks captain Tana Umaga is being touted as possible contender to replace former international Philippe Saint-Andre as coach of French club Toulon.

Saint-Andre will replace Marc Lievremont as France rugby coach after the World Cup.

Saint-Andre, surprisingly lost out to Lievremont when the latter was appointed to the post after Bernard Laporte stepped down following the 2007 World Cup.

Lievremont who's had mixed success announced in May last year that he would be stepping down after the world cup.

Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal who has invested millions of dollars made from his former comic book empire into the club, says he's contacted Umaga, about the role but a number of options are being considered.

Umaga is currently assistant coach with Counties-Manukau but has played and coached at Toulon previously.
