Swimming medals at World University Games

New Zealand swimmers have won two gold medals on the first night of finals at the World University Games in China.

Glenn Snyders tied for first in the 200 breaststroke in a New Zealand recordv time, while Lauren Boyle won the 800 freestyle title, also in New Zealand record time.

Snyders says he was delighted to be able to carry on the form he showed at the recent World Championships.

Snyders will also swim the 100 breaststroke.

Gareth Kean won a bronze in the 200 backstroke.

New Zealand has won a total of eight swimming medals in the history of the summer Universiade and only one gold previously, to Anthony Mosse at Zagreb in 1987 which was one of his haul of four medals.
