Canterbury's beaten Northland 28-13 in a provincial rugby ITM Cup crossover match in Christchurch.
The Premiership hosts had to face a strong southerly in the first half and trailed 13-0 after a dropped pass gifted a try to the championship side's number eight Cameron Goodhue.
But tries to leftwing Patrick Osborne and number eight Nasi Manu closed the gap to three at half-time.
Lock Luke Romano scored early in the second half but Canterbury couldn't secure the bonus point until the last minute when fullback Johnny McNicholl scored their fourth try.
