All Black halfback Piri Weepu could back up for Wellington 24 hours later after being bracketed for the Lions' first home game of the national provincial season against Auckland on Saturday.
Wellington's made four changes with three in the forwards and one in the backs.
Jacob Ellison and Faifili Levave return from injury in the pack and Neemia Tialata switches back to tighthead prop, while Apoua Stewart moves into fullback from the bench at Westpac Stadium.
