New Zealand striker Kosta Barbarouses has left the A-League football champions Brisbane for Russian first division club FC Alania Vladikavkaz on a three-year contract.
The 21-year-old All White and former Wellington Phoenix star has been on trial with the Russian outfit and terms were agreed between the clubs for an undisclosed fee with the transfer effective immediately.
Roar head coach Ange Postecoglou says they're disappointed to see Barbarouses leave the club, as he was an important part of their team and he would have liked him to stay another season to further his development.
Barbarouses' new club will take part in the qualifying rounds of this season's UEFA Europa League with Alania having made the Russian Cup final against CSKA Moscow because CSKA had already qualified for European competition, enabling Alania to secure a qualifying berth regardless of the result.
Alania lost the final 2-1 in May and are currently second in the Russian First Division after 19 matches.
