Mark Gerrard is poised to resume his international rugby career having last played for the Wallabies nearly four years ago.
The 28 year old midfield back seems likely to be named at fullback for Australia's season-opening test against Samoa on Sunday as Kurtley Beale has been nursing a knee injury.
A serious knee injury put an end to Gerrard's World Cup hopes in 2007, and this time last year he was playing for a Japanese second division club.
He's since had a standout season of Super rugby with the Melbourne Rebels.
