New Zealand racing driver Mitch Evans has overtaken all comers to seize the lead in the GP3 Series after a podium finish at the European Grand Prix meeting in Spain.

The Auckland teenager qualified fourth fastest and finished a fighting third on the Valencia street circuit.

It's Evans' second podium finish in just five races.

He turned 17 on Friday and is the youngest driver in the international field of 30 drivers.

Evans will start tonight's second Spanish race from sixth place on the reverse top eight grid.
