British rowers to miss World Cup regatta

8:19 am on 10 June 2011

The New Zealand rowing team won't have to worry about one of its biggest rivals at next weekend's World Cup regatta in Germany with Great Britain deciding not to send a team to Hamburg because of the fatal E.coli outbreak in the area.

New Zealand's high performance Alan Cotter says they're satisfied with assurances they've received.

The outbreak's been linked to vegetables such as cucumbers and to beansprouts so Cotter says they'll be avoiding salads and ensuring fruit is peeled and vegetables are cooked.

The British decision comes after Germany's health minister Daniel Bahr said he was cautiously optimistic the outbreak had peaked.

Hamburg is the second of three World Cup events this year and Great Britain won five gold medals at the first in Munich last month.
