The legendary American golfer Arnold Palmer will be following next week's US Open with more than the usual level of interest.

Among the last few qualifiers for the year's third major championship was Palmer's 23 year old grandson Sam Saunders, who survived a three way playoff to earn himself a start next week at the Congressional club in Maryland.

Saunders will play his 15th PGA tour event at this week's St. Jude Classic in Memphis, courtesy of his famous grandfather's connections, and he says to have earned his place in the US Open field is something extra special.
