Woods in doubt for US Open

Tiger Woods re-injured his left leg and was forced to withdraw from the US PGA Tour Players Championship in Florida after just nine holes.

The 14-time major champion tweaked his Achilles tendon and knee on the opening tee shot of the first round but battled on to post a six-over 42 front nine before calling it quits.

Woods originally suffered minor Achilles tendon and ligament damage at the Masters but had been given the all clear by doctors to compete despite not playing any golf in the lead up to The Players.

He is now in doubt for the US Open to be held in five weeks time at Congressional Country Club.
