Football's world governing body FIFA has asked the English Football Association for evidence to back up former FA chairman Lord David Triesman's allegations that four executive committee members sought favours in return for votes.
Lord Triesman has told a British parliamentary inquiry sought incentives to vote for England's unsuccesful bid to host the 2018 World Cup.
The claims are a major embarrassment for FIFA and come less than a month before president Sepp Blatter stands for re-election in a poll where Asian Football Confederation chief Mohamed Bin Hamman is opposing him.
