Manchester United striker Michael Owen says he was disappointed at being booed by Newcastle fans during his return to St James' Park.
The 31-year-old, who spent four years with Newcastle after a club record $32 million move from Real Madrid, received a hostile welcome as he was introduced as an 80th-minute replacement during the nil-all Premier League draw.
Responding to the boos via his Twitter account, Owen said he expected to get booed but was disappointing and said if they knew the facts they may have a different opinion.
Owen, who earned around $213,000 a week during his injury-plagued time with the Magpies, left in the wake of the club's relegation to the Championship at the end of the 2008-09 campaign.
