The England rugby winger Mark Cueto has been banned for nine weeks for eye-gouging.

Cueto had already been suspended for six weeks by Sale after appearing to make contact with the eye or eye area of Northampton lock Christian Day in his team's 53-24 defeat earlier this month.

Cueto, a key member of the England side that won this year's Six Nations, will miss the rest of the domestic season.

The Wales scrumhalf Richie Rees received a 12-week ban for a similar offence in January.
