The New Zealand men's and women's hockey teams will play Australia and Fiji in Hobart in an Oceania Olympic qualifying tournament in October.

The Oceania region has two quota allocations for both the men's and women's tournaments at the Olympics, with the top two teams from the Oceania Cup qualifying.

The placings at the Oceania Cup will help determine the teams' pool draw for the Olympics, with a higher ranking potentially resulting in a more favourable draw.

The Oceania Cup is hosted every two years, alternately between Australia and New Zealand, and it is the Oceania qualifying event for both the World Cup and the Olympic Games.
