New Zealand football says it's far from certain the international between the All Whites and Japan will go ahead in Tokyo later this month, despite Japanese officials confirming they still want to host the game.
The chief executive of New Zealand Football Michael Glading says he's been in contact with Japanese football officials in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami which devastated the north-east of the country and they're adamant the game should go ahead believing it could help rally the nation.
New Zealand is scheduled to play Japan in just over two weeks time, four days after a match against China and Glading says they'll continue to monitor the situation.
He says they have been in contact with foreign affairs officials and they don't have to make a final decision on whether to go to Japan until the day after the match against China.
Meanwhile the New Zealand Under-17 side will travel to Japan tomorrow as planned for the Sanix Cup, but the tournament hosts won't be playing.
The side will play six games in four days at the tournament in Fukoka, 1500km away from the devastation.
