High success rate for McCaw type injury

New Zealand rugby fans will be relieved to hear that the type of injury sustained by the All Blacks captain has a high success rate of coming right.

Richie McCaw is likely to miss the first six rounds of the Super Rugby competition, after suffering a stress fracture in his right foot while doing a fitness test last week and a scan has confirmed the fracture.

He'll now have surgery to insert a small screw in the bone running down the outside of the foot to the little toe and McCaw says the procedure is worth going through.

McCaw says it may have healed on its own but with surgery the prospects of a full recovery are excellent.
