Hockey's world governing body has refused permission for a new multi-million-dollar series in India modelled on the popular Indian Premier League cricket.
The Indian television company Nimbus and the unrecognised Indian Hockey Federation were planning to start a World Series of Hockey in November or December this year.
The Swiss-based International Hockey Federation says it was already working starting a professional league in India in collaboration with Hockey India, the official body running the sport in the country, and the FIH has threatened to ban anyone associated with the rebel league.
