Jets a step closer to Super Bowl

The New York Jets have moved a step closer to American football's Super Bowl after upsetting the New England Patriots 28-21 at Foxboro in the second round of the NFL playoffs.

Quarterback Mark Sanchez threw for three touchdowns while the New York defence also had a day to remember, sacking the Patriots playmaker Tom Brady five times.

The Jets face Pittsburgh next week for the right to play in the Super Bowl in Dallas on February 6.

The win avenges last month's 45-3 loss to the Patriots, who finished the regular season with NFL's best record.

In the earlier playoff game, the Chicago Bears advanced to the National Conference championship game against Green Bay by hammering the Seattle Seahawks 35-24.
