Kenya's Olympic marathon champion Samuel Wanjiru has been arraigned in court on charges of attempting to kill his wife and his watchman.
The 24-year-old Kenyan and two-time Chicago marathon winner denied the charges of attempting to murder his wife Terezah Njeri Muturi when he appeared before the magistrate in Nyahururu town, in Central Kenya.
Police prosecutor John Rutto told the court that Wanjiru went to his home overnight while he was drunk and had a row with his wife.
Rutto said police were called and immediately arrested the accused.
Wanjiru was released on bail until February 9 next year when the case will be heard.
Wanjiru became Kenya's first Olympic champion in Beijing in 2008, and at 21, the youngest marathon winner since 1932.
