The New Zealand Breakers boast the only unbeaten record after three rounds of the ANBL and are about to add another formidable piece of artillery to their already imposing arsenal.

The Breakers came from four points down at the final change to beat Melbourne 84-79 on Thursday taking their record to 3-0.

High scoring guard Kirk Penney, who has returned to New Zealand after failing to make the roster of American NBA team the San Antonio Spurs, is expected to suit up for his first game of the season for the Breakers at Gold Coast on Friday.

Melbourne remain the only winless team in the competition.

The only other previously unbeaten team, Wollongong, lost their pristine record with an 87-84 away loss to defending champion Perth (2-2) but rallyed to to score an away win over Adelaide 96-82 to take their record to 3-1.

Gold Coast (2-1) produced another stirring come-from-behind victory to score a 92-81 home win over Cairns (1-2). and Townsville (2-2) held on at the death to score an 80-79 home win over Sydney (1-2).
