The young Hawaiian surfer Carissa Moore has won the Women's Pro Portugal, beating out the reigning three-time ASP Women's World Champion, Australia's Stephanie Gilmore.

The 18-year-old rookie was the dominant surfer from the outset of the event, consistently notching up the highest heat and wave scores of the round.

Moore notched up her second career victory with a score of 17.44 out of a possible 20 in the final.

She says she just tried to remain focused on the waves and not her opponents, and says she's excited about the win.

New Zealand's Paige Hareb was knocked out at the quarter-final stage by Gilmore.
